Breast Imaging

Based at the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth The Breast Unit has access to a state-of-the-art digital facility. This ensures the finest modern imaging technology is available to our patients.

As we are continuously working to improve and expand our services, we are always looking to invest in the most current equipment and technology. This allows us to deliver outstanding imaging services that help minimise the time between diagnosis and treatment. As our digital facility is fitted with the latest 3T MRI and 320 Genesis CT Scanner, we lead the way in gold standard imaging.

During our Breast Clinics, Consultant Radiologists who specialise in breast imaging are available to analyse mammograms and perform ultrasound examinations. Our team of Mammographers are state-registered Radiographers with specialist post-graduate training in breast imaging.

We offer the following services for both routine screening and symptomatic patients:

All this ensures you get the best possible assessment.

Our Full-Field Digital Mammography system offers our patients shorter examination times, lower radiation doses, and excellent image quality.

Self referral mammography is available for women over the age of 40 who have no obvious breast problems and have not had mammography within the past 12 months.

Ultrasound is widely used in the assessment of breast conditions. It is widely recognised as the the best form of examination for younger women. Our high resolution colour doppler ultrasound scanner is used for detailed examinations of specific breast abnormalities and as guidance for core biopsy and fine needle aspiration of breast abnormalities.

Breast MRI is a recognised diagnostic investigation for specific breast pathologies, and where clinically indicated is undertaken on our 3T MRI scanner.
