The Nursing Team from the Breast Unit are here to provide advice, information and ongoing support, whilst our patients undergo investigations or treatment for Breast Cancer. We hope that this will lessen the anxiety that can be experienced at this stressful time.

We aim to help by providing:

  • Ongoing personalised care and advice for patients and their family
  • Advice and information on activities and expectations after surgery and further treatments i.e. Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, Enocrine Therapy.
  • Practical help and advice on suitable bra's, swimwear and prosthesis (artificial breast forms) following partial or full osthesis (artificial breast forms) following partial or full mastectomy.
  • Practical help and advice on care of the arm to prevent lymphoedema (arm swelling) which can occure if lymph glands are removed from under the armpit.

All breast diagnostic procedures including Triple assessment, Digital mammography, ultrasound scan and MRI scans are available. We also have facilities for image guided biopsies and efficient pathology service.

All treatment options for breast cancer patients are provided including comprehensive reconstructive procedures (implant & flap reconstructions). The service is supported by a specialist multidisciplinary team including Macmillan nurse and Breast Care Nurse.

The team of specialist breast surgeons work in partnership with their colleagues in imaging and pathology ensuring patients are seen and investigated at the same appointment. This provides the patient the reassurance of receiving results on the same day, wherever possible, and continuity of care with the Breast Unit team allowing for fast track referrals.
