About the Breast Unit

Our specialist team look after your every need, including emotionally and spiritually, whilst helping you make informed choices about any treatment. They have access to the best technology and imaging equipment to ensure quick and effective treatment for our patients.

Our Breast Surgeons work in partnership with their colleagues in imaging and pathology ensuring patients are seen and investigated at the same appointment.

All breast diagnostic procedures including triple assessment, digital mammography, ultrasound scans and MRI scans are available. We also have full facilities for image guided biopsies and pathology services.

All treatment options for breast cancer patients are provided including comprehensive reconstruction procedures (implant and flap reconstructions).

The Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth is the only private hospital in the UK offering endoscopic mastectomy to breast cancer patients.

Specialist Imaging

During our Breast Clinics, Consultant Radiologists with specialist expertise in breast imaging are available to report mammograms and perform ultrasound examinations.

We offer the following screening services:

  • Full field digital mammography
  • Breast ultrasound
  • Fine needle aspiration and core biopsy
  • Stereotactic localisation
  • Magenetic resonance imaging (MRI) using a 3T scanner

Our Full-Field Digital Mammography system offers our patients shorter examination times, lower radiation doses, and excellent image quality.

Ultrasound is widely used in the assessment of breast conditions. Our high resolution colour doppler ultrasound scanner is used for detailed examinations of specific breast abnormalities and as guidance for core biopsy and fine needle aspiration of breast abnormalities.

Contact Information

Our Appointments Team have a dedicated and caring approach to finding you the earliest appointment possible with the best specialist.

Most patients are referred to us by their GP or another medical specialist as a referral letter is often needed before an appointment can be confirmed.

If you do not have a GP, the we may be able to assist you by suggesting the most appropriate course of action for you to take, given your location and individual circumstance.

If you have medical insurance (e.g. Bupa, Axa PPP, Norwich Union), you will need to contact your insurer to get authorisation for any treatment and, in most cases, you will require a referral letter from your GP.

Our Charity

The Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth is a charity, meaning every time you visit here for treatment you are helping someone less fortunate than yourself.

Our aim is to help care for the sick, whilst putting back profits from our world-renowned organisation to fund our on-site hospice and clinics. Our key objectives are to make sure that patients receive the support and treatment they need in an environment that is safe and secure, offering the very highest standards of care to whoever seeks it.

As a charity, we must operate on a not-for-profit basis and our assets are used for charitable purposes.
